Space Academy Arts Centre (L.A.con IV Art Show)

The Academy's Arts Centre (Art Show) is in the heart of Cadet Central (Hall A), flanked on one side by the Academy Book Store (Dealers Room) and the Quad (Exhibits) on the other. Artwork will be displayed on pegboard panels, tables, in the print shop and in the artist alley immediately outside of the Centre.

The Space Academy Arts Centre is universally acknowledged as the foremost collection of space, fantasy, and speculative artwork for sale and exhibition in the galaxy. Special exhibits this term include Artist Guest of Honor James Gurney, artists nominated for the 2006 Hugo awards, artwork nominated for the Chesley art awards presented by ASFA, fanzine art organized by John Hertz, Illustrators of the Future, artwork by our colleagues in Japan, items for the charity auction to benefit ASFA, and a special anniversary display of jewelry by Laurie Edison.

Many of the artists who were unable to attend last term in Glasgow are naturally eager to participate this term. The response to the Academy's initial announcement has been good, but there is still plenty of room left. If you haven't yet sent in your reservation form, now is the time!

This term, the Academy will allow previously-purchased art to be displayed in the Arts Centre (Art Show) for resale by the owner. The entry rules, panel fees, and sales commission are the same as for an artist, except that an additional 5% of sales will be sent to the Arts Council to comply with California law (only pieces sold for more than $1,000 are subject to this additional amount). To take advantage of the re-sale program, please use the "agent" area of the reservation form, and write "resale" in the "artist" area.

Please remember that the Academy's 2006 term will begin Wednesday, August 23rd and end Sunday, August 27th. Artists must check in on Wednesday. The Arts Centre (Art Show) will open to Academy members late Wednesday afternoon.

Artwork will be sold by written bid and potential buyers are reminded that they must register with the Arts Centre (Art Show) staff before bidding. The close of written bidding and the voice auction will be on Saturday. Buyers will be able to pick-up and pay for their artwork late Saturday afternoon and Sunday morning.

The complete rules for artists and a reservation form are currently available (see sidebar at right).

An advisory postcard will be sent to artists on the mailing lists from the last several Worldcons. If you believe that you may not be on one of those lists or have moved in the last few years, please send your contact information via email to artshow@laconiv.org.
