Voter Eligibility

L.A.con IV will be administering the site selection to determine the host of the 2008 Worldcon.

IF you are at least a supporting member of L.A.con IV you are eligible to vote for the 2008 Worldcon site.

IF you were at least a supporting member of Interaction in Glasgow, 2005 [offsite link] you are eligible to vote for the 2008 Worldcon site.

You may only vote once. (What this means, for all you barracks house lawyers, is that if you were a member of Interaction and are a member of L.A.con IV, you still only get one vote. Sorry, no exceptions.)

Site Selection for the 2008 Worldcon: So You Want to Hold a Worldcon!

Groups interested in bidding to run the 66th Worldcon in 2008 need to file with L.A.con IV no later than 180 days before the official opening ceremony of L.A.con IV. Therefore, the required paperwork must be received by L.A.con IV on or before Friday, 24-Feb-2006.

  1. an announcement of intent to bid;
  2. adequate evidence of an agreement with its proposed site's facilities, such as a conditional contract or a letter of agreement;
  3. the rules under which the Worldcon Committee will operate, including a specification of the term of office of their chief executive officer or officers and the conditions and procedures for the selection and replacement of such officer or officers.
The bidding committee must supply written copies of these documents to any member of WSFS (i.e., until the end of L.A.con IV, any L.A.con IV member) on request.

Any site which is greater than 500 miles from the site of L.A.con IV, defined as the Anaheim Convention Center, is eligible to bid. Bid filings will only be accepted by mail to the following address:

L.A.con IV Site Selection Administrator
P.O. Box 8442
Van Nuys, CA 91409
USA
Or e-mail to siteselection(send e-mail).

Worldcon bidders are encouraged to familiarize themselves with the WSFS constitution. Voters for the 2008 Worldcon will be required to pay a voting fee. The voting fee will be determined by L.A.con IV after consultation with all the committees bidding for the right to hold the 2008 Worldcon. Details of how to vote and the voting fee will be distributed with the site selection ballots. Any interested party with concerns or questions regarding the 2008 Worldcon Site Selection process may email siteselection(send e-mail).
