L.A.con IV: Aerospace Legacy Foundation

The Aerospace Legacy Foundation, in conjunction with the Organization to Support Space Exploration (O.S.S.E.), is going to display its Lunar Exploration Exhibit at the LA Con IV World Science Fiction Convention

At LA Con III in 1996, O.S.S.E. displayed the full scale-operating replica of the Lunar Roving Vehicle. Since that time, the O.S.S.E. LRV has been featured in the Tom Hanks produced, HBO miniseries, From The Earth To The Moon.

In 1999, O.S.S.E. joined forces with the Aerospace Legacy Foundation. ALF is a non-profit foundation that was incorporated in 1997. Its mission is to preserve Southern California's innovative aerospace and aviation heritage. Based in Downey California, The Foundation seeks to preserve the history of over 70 years of advancements in aviation and space travel that were created at the site of the former NASA Downey Plant. In past times, the plant has been known by names such as Boeing Aerospace, Rockwell Intl., North American Rockwell, North American Aviation, ConVair & Consolidated Vultee Aircraft.

The exhibit consists of the full size mockup of the Lunar Module and full size replica of the Lunar Roving Vehicle. Additional exhibit elements include a lunar backdrop, several 8 x 4-ft graphics wall panel sections that chronicle the Apollo Expeditions to the Moon, and the new NASA manned space exploration project starting at the close of the Space Shuttle program in 2010. Project Constellation will return Astronauts to the Moon using the best of Apollo and Shuttle technology with the development of the Crew Exploration Vehicle (CEV). Another Velcro graphics wall depicts in pictures and text the activities the Aerospace Legacy Foundation and the 70-year history of the NASA Downey plant site. Scale models, Artifacts, Videos and informational handouts complete the exhibit.
