FACILITIES The Los Angeles in 2006 Worldcon Bid Committee is proposing to return to the site of our last Worldcon presentation: the Anaheim Convention Center and both the Hilton Anaheim and Anaheim Marriott hotels.
The Anaheim Convention Center is the largest convention center on the West Coast and one of the largest convention centers in the world. After three years of expansion and renovation, this new jewel has quickly become known as a regional architectural landmark. It has centralized towers formed by an open grid design which blends into a spectacular curving glass wall facade. It is literally a one size fits all meeting place that offers over 800,000 square feet of exhibition space with a grand total of 1.4 million square feet of exhibition, meeting and prefunction area. Any size gathering can utilize some or all of the 52 meeting rooms, each is equipped with the latest technological advances to make meetings productive, efficient and inviting. Located in the heart of Orange County, visitors arrive at the Anaheim Convention Center by a California-style, palm tree laden parkway. Attendees are greeted by an avenue of colorful flowers and shrubs. Upon entering the enormous lobby, visitors can not help but be impressed by the two levels of balconies and soaring open towers. The lobby is visually open to the glorious Southern California sun and sky.
Complementing the Convention Center is the adjacent Arena, considered to be a premier mid-sized venue for meetings, musical and sporting events. Located across the Katella Avenue from Disney's California Adventure park, the Arena can accommodate up to 8,800 attendees. In its history, the Arena hosted such celebrities as Elvis, Elton John and the 1984 Olympics Wrestling event. The Anaheim Convention Center and the Arena are located in the 1,100 acre Anaheim Resort. Recently redesigned as a pedestrian-friendly community, the Anaheim Resort is a garden of walkways, lush flowers, towering palms and warm sunshine. Also located in the Anaheim Resort is Disneyland® park, Disney's California AdventureTM park, Downtown Disney and a tempting selection of restaurants, hotels and entertainment. The larger of the two Anaheim hotels in our package would host in our proposal a variety of programming and special functions as well as (very likely) our Art Show, Hospitality Suite and lounges. Hilton Anaheim, superbly located in the heart of The Anaheim Resort™, is recognized as the city's pre-eminent resort hotel. The property lies one short block from the brand new Disney's California Adventure™ theme park and the Downtown Disney District® of restaurants, nightlife and shopping, as well as Disneyland® park, the original. Hilton guests may purchase Disneyland® Resort Park Hopper® tickets on site at the hotel. Complimentary shuttles from the Hilton Anaheim run continually to the Disneyland® Resort area. With its 1,572 deluxe guest rooms, including 95 spacious suites, the spectacular hotel celebrates California's renowned style of life throughout its accommodations and dining, entertainment and recreation amenities. Business travelers and convention attendees enjoy the hotel's 100,000 square feet of meeting space and its location next door to the recently expanded $178 million Anaheim Convention Center. It's easy to see why the Hilton Anaheim is regarded as the most complete hotel in Orange County. The experienced and friendly staff, together with outstanding facilities and ideal location, has made the hotel the place to stay in Anaheim. The Anaheim Marriott would likely hold in our proposal, as it did in 1996, evening programming and dances and the Registration department, as well as other functions. Discover adventure at Disney's newest Disney's California Adventure? and Downtown Disney?... an outdoor promenade exploding with new restaurants, theatres, and shopping in a tropical setting of majestic palm trees, lush foliage, and vibrant flowers. The Anaheim Marriott has just completed a total guest room renovation and a $1.5 million renovation of the front drive entrance to the hotel. The hotel will be conducting a lobby and main pool renovation 24 June to 05 October 2001. |
The 130,000 square feet of meeting space includes one of the largest ballrooms in the West. Highlighting convenience, the meeting rooms and ballroom are located on the second and third floors directly over the massive exhibit halls. Each meeting room opens onto a spacious lobby area which is ideal for pre and post function gatherings. In turn, the lobby area expands onto scenic balconies which offer a breath-taking view of the rotunda and a sweeping view of the Anaheim Resort.
