For Immediate Release:
64th World Science Fiction Convention / L.A.con IV
Holds First Open General Meeting
2006 World Science Fiction Convention Solicits Participants & Ideas
At noon, Saturday, April 30th, 2005, the L.A.con IV committee will be
hosting its first Open General Meeting at the LASFS Clubhouse.
The meeting is open to all. We welcome those who are currently
working on L.A.con IV, those who would like to become involved in
working on the convention and anyone with ideas and suggestions for
the convention.
The agenda for the meeting is to discuss the general plans for the
convention. We will be covering what the committee hopes to
accomplish and how they plan to go about it. We are talking big ideas
and grand schemes. We will be covering everything from major events,
programming, the Space Cadets theme; a general layout of the
convention's planned facilities, the Space Port Lounge, and a host of
other areas. L.A.con IV is looking for eager, enthusiastic people
wanting to contribute to making the 64th Worldcon everything it can
be. We are interested in your ideas and looking for people who want
to join in the fun of creating a great Worldcon.
The meeting will take place at the Los Angeles Science Fantasy
Society, Inc. (LASFS) Clubhouse at 11513 Burbank Blvd, North
Hollywood, California, 91601.

The meeting will start at noon and is expected to run into the
evening. The day will include formal and informal discussions about
the convention and general socializing. This will enable all those
concerned the opportunity to get to know each other better. Drinks
and snacks will be provided, including an L.A. classic-style barbecue.
For anyone traveling in for the meeting, we have a limited number of
rooms available at the Airtel Plaza Hotel in Van Nuys for the rate of
$79.00 per night (single or double). This will include a
complimentary buffet breakfast. You can make reservations by
contacting the Airtel at 1-800-2Airtel. Just mention L.A.con IV to
get the special rate. Shuttle service will be available from the
Airtel to the meeting and back.
While the World Science Fiction Convention is primarily a literary
convention, we believe that the World Science Fiction Convention
should include fans from all over the world and from all the worlds of
fandom. Whether your interest is primarily literature, science,
anime, fanzines, media, costuming, filking, gaming, socializing etc.,
we feel you should be part of this convention and this convention
should have something to offer you and your friends. The only way for
this to happen is if people of all interests get together to work
together to make the convention the best possible event.
L.A.con IV is sincerely seeking all interested parties. If you are
interested in assisting with the convention or have ideas and are
unable to attend, please contact us at openmeeting@laconiv.org
Please spread the word. All who want to help are invited.
