Grant Kruger, parties
This is an incomplete list of parties that various fans plan to hold at L.A.con IV. If you're planning on having a party, write to the webmasters at webmaster and they will add you to the list on this page.
Parties will be held on the Lanai (party) floor in the Hilton Anaheim, L.A.con IV's headquarters and hospitality hotel. It is located approximately 50 feet from the door to the convention center. The fifth floor offers an ideal party space with Lanai rooms and suites opening on to three large outdoor atrium pool and sun decks.
All parties must be held on the party floor in the Hilton. If you want to hold a party and did not specify "party block" on your reservation, please let us know as soon as possible at housingproblems.
All the suites are sold out and there is already a waiting list for any cancellations. To be added to this waiting list (though the odds are very much against you) send an email to suites. Please remember that because many Lanai rooms open onto the Lanai decks you may not need a suite to accommodate your party. For other party rooms you MUST specify "party floor" at the time you make your Hilton Anaheim room reservation.
Please do not approach the hotel with any party hosting questions. Contact the party L.A.con IV maven team or someone from L.A.con IV facilities.
Party hosts are responsible for the behavior of any party attendees who are not members of the convention. Party guests who are not members of the convention are not allowed to use convention facilities, such as visiting the con suite.
Please be considerate of others when it comes to noise, particularly on the open courtyards that border other rooms. Obey all directives coming from the hotel. Noise outside of the party floor is prohibited. No music or service areas can be in outside areas of the party rooms.
Do not move beds in party rooms. Should you need a bed to be moved please contact the hotel.
If you decorate the hotel rooms do not do anything that will damage the furniture, walls and ceilings of the room.
L.A.con IV is not responsible for any damage you do to rooms. The hotel will bill the party host for any damages.
Checkout times are the same for party rooms as any other room. If you need a late checkout then please check with the hotel, but be considerate that the party occupying the room after you may be affected by your late checkout. Suites are slated to check out at noon. Late check out can be arranged for 1pm for free, if done in advance. If there is no renter coming right in, late checkout may be available for a fee. $30 per unit for a 3pm check out and $60 per unit for a 6pm check out. See the chart below
Room type | 3pm | 6pm |
---|---|---|
Regular sleeping room | $30 | $60 |
Doublewide (Parlor only) | $60 | $120 |
Triplewide (Parlor only) | $90 | $180 |
Note that each sleeping room and each parlor is charged separately. Contact the hotel for availability and for more information.
Please be sure to tip your bellman and maid.
Usual tipping for the bellmen is $2 per small/medium bag/box and higher for larger bags/boxes.
Suggested tipping for Maid service ranges from is $2 for a standard sleeping room left as found with a tip of $5-$20 depending on the level of mess. $20 and up for suites, again depending on level of cleanup required. Keeping the staff happy is not only fair, it will also help to avoid conflicts with the hotel.
Power is very restricted and the electrical circuits are shared among nine rooms. Please be careful of the draw anything you plug in requires.
Suites will have mini-refrigerators. A limited supply of mini-refrigerators will be available from the hotel for $30 per stay with a limit of 1 additional per suite (for a total of 2). Please notify them early if you need one. The hotel prohibits the use of larger refrigerators or any other appliances not supplied by them.
Party fliers may be posted only in designated areas. Nothing may be affixed to the hotel walls. We have use of the reader boards in the hotel function space (2 in the lobby, 4 on the second floor and 6 each on the third and fourth floors) and we will put up free standing units in the hotel elevator areas.
At the con, you can submit your party information to the convention newsletter, which will be distributed throughout the convention. There will also be a party board where you can list your party for all to see and from which party lists will be built.
Our arrangement with the hotel is a difficult one. We do not have a corkage waiver, but the hotel will be somewhat tolerant. You can bring in your own supplies and food for parties held in party rooms but please be discreet. Under no circumstances should we be obvious about having food or drink.
Therefore, if you are planning to serve food or alcohol at your party, please be discreet by not:
Asking a store or supermarket to deliver alcohol to the hotel.
Have any liquor bottles visible when checking in to the hotel or passing through the lobby. (In other words, use closed non-liquor cardboard cartons for any alcohol when taking it through the lobby.)
Having any obvious delivery that could force the hotel to "notice" our parties.
Further, as regards food:
Remember that the legal drinking age in California is 21. Do not serve alcohol to anyone under this age. You will be responsible for checking the IDs of anyone at your party.
Crock pots and chafing dishes are acceptable as long as they are not left unattended. Aside from this, no cooking or heating of food is permitted in hotel rooms. The hotel's fire alarm systems are sensitive; cooking fumes/steam can set them off. If you want to serve hot food at your party, please order it from the hotel.
A limited supply of mini-refrigerators will be available from the hotel for $30 per stay. Please notify them early if you need one. The hotel prohibits the use of larger refrigerators.
Please remember to bring supplies for clean-up (trash bags, etc.) along with your food, drinks, and other supplies.
Ice is available from the hotel for $25 per bucket, where a bucket is 18" x 13" x 4" and holds 4 gallons of ice. Ice may be kept in your guest room bathtub, but please take care not to scratch the tub. Cushioning it with towels and plastic trash bags has often worked in the past. We are looking into the option of ordering more reasonably priced ice from an outside vendor, so please check back here for upcoming details.
Remember, party hosts must leave their rooms in the same condition in which they found them.
I also collected excellent party-host advice from a variety of experienced party runners and compiled an article: How to Host a Convention Party . Check this page out for just about everything you ever wanted to know about hosting a party. A mirror of this information is on the Conrunner Wiki .
Before you go shopping, check out our Local Resources guide at the Information desk for information on where to buy what, and loads more besides.
If you have a question which is not covered here, please contact us at parties.
Thank you,
